Sadly, the health choices that are made at the end of life are seldom planned and many times they are made for us. Decisions are put off and desires are not expressed because it is difficult to contemplate or discuss death.

Transfer of property and the well being of a spouse or child are all issues to be considered and planned for.
There are many decisions to be made every day in life, even late in life. This is called life-time planning. Some of these decisions are of a financial nature, while others are of a personal nature, and still others are health-related.
Financial decisions might include whether or not to have a joint bank account, how to go about paying bills and arranging finances, and drafting and maintaining legal papers.
Personal decisions might include making funeral plans or burial arrangements, choosing where to live, and fulfilling spiritual or religious preferences.
You have the right to make choices based upon your own values, beliefs, and wishes, even if others disagree with you. Courts have almost always followed the expressed wishes of competent adults, especially for health care. Therefore, it is important to state your desires in writing about health and financial decisions when you are capable of clearly expressing your wishes.
