About Idaho Legal Aid Services

Idaho Legal Aid Services (ILAS) is a nonprofit organization that protects and advances the rights of the most underserved - ensuring access to the justice system for all Idahoans.

Each year, ILAS provides free, high-quality legal services to thousands of individuals across the state. Our network of local offices, self-help resources, and specialized programs keeps ILAS at the forefront of change in vulnerable communities and on the front lines of creating a fairer, more just Idaho.

Who We Are

Idaho Legal Aid Services is a nonprofit statewide organization dedicated to providing equal access to justice for low-income people through quality advocacy and education.

For over 55 years, Idaho Legal Aid Services has been a lifeline for low-income Idahoans facing urgent and life-changing legal challenges. Since our founding in 1967, we have worked tirelessly to ensure that every Idahoan, regardless of income, has equal access to justice for their civil legal matters.

Every day, we stand beside those who need us most: survivors of domestic violence seeking protection; families on the brink of eviction from their homes; and seniors navigating complex administrative systems to secure essential health care. Without Idaho Legal Aid Services, these individuals would face these overwhelming legal barriers alone.

Through our seven regional offices and three specialized legal hotlines: our Domestic and Sexual Violence Advice Line, Housing Advice Line, and Senior (60+) and Public Benefits Advice Line, we provide critical legal services to those in need - no matter where they live in Idaho. In a state as vast and rural as ours, providing accessible services presents unique challenges. Yet each year, we assist clients in all 44 counties, ensuring that even the most remote communities have access to justice.

Beyond direct legal assistance, we also invest in expanding legal education and self-help resources. Our website offers an easy-to-use online intake system, a chatbot to guide users to relevant information, and a comprehensive library of legal forms, brochures, and videos - empowering Idahoans with knowledge and support.

Unlike a state agency, we do not receive state tax dollars to fund our work. Instead, our ability to provide these vital services depends on federal grants and the generosity of private donors. But as Idaho's population has grown, federal grant funding has not kept pace with the increasing demand for our services. Now, more than ever, we are relying on donor support to ensure we can continue meeting the legal needs of Idaho's most vulnerable residents.

Between 2015 and 2024, Idaho Legal Aid Services assisted over 38,000 clients with their legal issues. With your partnership, we can do even more. Together, we can expand our services and reach thousands of additional Idahoans who need help navigating life's most difficult legal challenges. Your support isn't just a donation, it's an investment in justice, stability, and hope across every community in our state. Join us in making a difference for vulnerable Idahoans today.

Our Commitment to a Safe and Welcoming Environment

At Idaho Legal Aid Services, we are committed to ensuring that every individual who seeks our assistance is treated with dignity, respect, and professionalism. Our offices provide a safe and welcoming environment where people facing legal challenges can access the support they need – regardless of their background or circumstances.

For over 50 years, ILAS has been a trusted legal resource in Idaho, standing with individuals and families as they navigate complex legal issues. We believe that strong communities thrive when people have fair access to justice, protection from harm, and the ability to secure stable housing, employment, and safety for their families.

As an organization that is embedded in the communities we serve, we witness firsthand the barriers many individuals face in seeking legal help. We are committed to removing those obstacles, ensuring that everyone can exercise their rights and access justice.

Our offices are designed to be spaces where individuals are treated with care, empathy, and professionalism. Whether assisting a tenant facing eviction, a survivor seeking protection, or a family working toward stability, we remain dedicated to upholding fairness and equal access to justice in all that we do.

We welcome all who seek legal assistance and those that contribute to our work. We are proud to serve as a pillar of support for Idaho communities and to uphold our mission of providing high-quality legal services to those in need.
