For too many years, the criminal justice system ignored the rights of crime victims. In Idaho, that changed with the overwhelming voter ratification of the Victims Rights Amendment to the Idaho Constitution in November 1994.
Consumer fraud is a serious problem in Idaho. Every year Idahoans lose too much money to scam artists.
Are you a victim of housing discrimination? Fair housing is your right! If you have been denied your housing
rights, you may have experienced housing discrimination.
The Department of Justice (“DOJ”) and the Department of Housing and Urban Development (“HUD”) are jointly responsible for enforcing the federal Fair Housing Act (the “Act”), which prohibits discrimination in housing on the basis of race, color, religion, sex, national origin, familial status, and disability.
On May 20, 2009, the President signed into a law a bill containing provisions protecting tenants living in foreclosed buildings. (The Protecting Tenants at Foreclosure Act is Title VII of Public Law 111-22).
These provisions immediately went into effect and are "self-executing", so no federal agency (such as HUD) is responsible for making them work. It is up to advocates to make sure that tenants, landlords, public housing authorities, courts, the legal community, and others involved in the foreclosure process are aware of these new rights for tenants.
Below you will find reasonable accommodation and modification requests that you can fill in via Microsoft Word and then print or print and handwrite to provide to your landlord. Please use the form(s) that fits your situation.
You will also find Proof of Need Letters to give to your doctor to fill out if your landlord requests a proof of need letter.
HUD handles complaints in several categories:
Housing discrimination: Federal law prohibits housing discrimination based on your race, color, national origin, religion, sex, family status, or disability. If you have been trying to buy or rent a home or apartment and you believe your rights have been violated, you can file a fair housing complaint.
